Let’s be honest, when it comes to your energy levels:
- Do you wake up feeling tired?
- Do you lose energy part way through the day?
- Do you cancel evening plans because you just can’t handle anything other than going home and crawling into bed?
It’s a common problem for millions of women. And the truth is that there are a number of reasons why your energy may be lacking. In this post, I talk more about my struggles with extreme fatigue and common causes.
If you struggle with extreme fatigue, you can boost energy naturally when you embrace the following 10 tips:
GET SUNSHINE DAILY
Vitamin D plays a key role in your metabolism and energy levels. It supports your immune system and organ health. Your body makes Vitamin D when you are exposed to sunlight. If you can’t get 20 minutes of sunlight a day, take a Vitamin D supplement or set that contains Vitamin D.
Personally, I use a set through doTERRA called Lifelong Vitality. While the supplement set offers a ton of benefits, it has helped me with boosting energy levels at a cellular level, battle brain fog, and improve digestion. They also offer a variety of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils that can improve your energy.
MOVE YOUR BODY
Sitting actually slows down your metabolism and can make you feel tired. To boost energy naturally, get up at least every hour and move your body for five or more minutes. Go for a walk. Stand at your desk. Do what you can to move your body throughout the day.
SKIP THE STARCHY CARBS AT LUNCH
Starchy carbs like potatoes, rice, and even gluten free bread have a high glycemic response, meaning your blood sugar will experience an increase and then the inevitable decrease. This decrease, which can happen anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour after you eat, makes you feel sleepy. Skip the starchy carbs while focusing on protein at lunch, and you won’t experience this.
Stress releases cortisol and over time it can drain your energy. Meditation can help reduce your body’s stress response. Five minutes a day is all you need. I started meditating a few years ago with 5-7 minute guided meditations.
Confession: when I was working corporate, I used to sneak in the bathroom for 5 minutes after lunch when I was drained, and listen to my guided meditation in a stall.
Recently, I released my own album of four 5-minute guided meditations called Power Within. Check that out here.
If you don’t have time to meditate in the middle of the day, a few minutes of deep breathing can help. Take 5-6 deep cleansing breaths mid-day, or anytime you feel fatigued. The increased oxygen and decreased cortisol will help you feel energized.
DRINK MORE WATER
One of the signs of dehydration is fatigue. Drink more water. I know it’s boring, so mix it up by adding fruit or veggies. My favorites combos are raspberries and mint leaves or sliced cucumber with strawberries. If you want to skip the hassle, you can always just add a drop of essential oils that are safe for internal use.
GET MORE SLEEP
If you’re getting less than 7 hours of sleep a night, you’re probably not getting enough. Adults need 8-9 hours a night and athletes need 10.
BOOST VITAMIN B INTAKE
Vitamin B plays a key role in energy and metabolism. A daily multi with B vitamins or a B complex vitamin can help boost energy naturally.
Daily exercise helps you sleep better, balances hormone levels and blood sugar, and reduces stress.
EAT MORE VEGETABLES
Most of us don’t get enough veggies. If you’re not eating veggies at every meal and getting five servings a day, you’re probably not getting enough. Start your day with a veggie smoothie or green juice to get your nutritional needs met in the morning.
If you’re struggling with energy issues, it can feel like your life is going nowhere. You have no time for friends, your kids aren’t getting the attention they should, and frankly, you’re just not living up to your full potential.
With the right guidance, it’s not difficult to boost energy levels naturally. A few simple daily habits added to your lifestyle can make all the difference. Choose one or two of these tips and start feeling more energized today.
