Diffusing essential oils is the easiest way to get started with using them. All you need to do is fill your diffuser up with water, add a few drops of essential oil and turn it on. How simple is that? If you don’t have an essential oil diffuser yet, you might be wondering what to look for in one before you buy. Today, I’m sharing my top three things to look for in an essential oil diffuser.

Diffusing essential oils is the best way to experience the oils automatically. But many people are confused about what a diffuser does and how a diffuser is different than a humidifier. Before we talk about what to look for in a diffuser, let’s talk about that.

WHAT IS A DIFFUSER?

Yes, a diffuser looks a lot like a humidifier. The way they work is very different. A humidifier is designed to boost the level of humidity in indoor air. They can help if you have dry skin, chapped lips and during colder weather.

A diffuser breaks water molecules and essential oils up into tiny particles so they can be carried through the air and affect the room we are in by getting rid of seasonal threats, the mood we are in by uplifting us, and our emotions when you’re using certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils like the ones I use.

HERE ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A DIFFUSER:

DESIRED USE OF THE DIFFUSER

The most important part of your decision is how you’re going to be using your diffuser. Once you have this in mind, you can start to narrow down your choices.

Will it primarily be used at night to promote restful sleep? Then you’ll want to look at a diffuser that will not only last long enough to help you unwind, but also be running while you sleep so you can breathe the oils in all night long. There are diffusers that last 8 hours and can get you through the whole night.

Are you going to use your diffuser during the day to stay focused or during client meetings while at your desk? Then you might want to might want a diffuser that can run on shorter settings or easily be adjusted for the time you’ll need it. There are diffusers that you can choose between 1, 2, or 4 hours and even ones that can be adjustable to your needs.

ROOM THE DIFFUSER WILL LIVE

Much like the purpose your diffuser will serve, you’ll want to consider the room it will live because square footage can impact the experience of your essential oils. Diffusers can cover a range of 330 to 800 square feet.

If you’re looking for a diffuser to place on your nightstand, then you can get away with a diffuser that covers less square footage.

If you’re looking for a diffuser that will work from your living room to your kitchen or you live in an open concept home, then you might need one that is going to cover 600 – 800 square feet.

GUARANTEE OR REPLACEMENT POLICY

Let’s face it. When you have something sitting next to your alarm clock, there’s a chance that you sleepily knock it over every once in awhile when you hit snooze with your eyes closed.

When it’s your diffuser that falls to the ground, then it’s dangerous. Not only can you imagine what it would be like sleeping without it for a night, but you don’t want to turn around and spend another $50 – $130 dollars replacing it.

That’s when a guarantee or a warranty come into play.

Make sure the diffuser you’re using comes from a company that’s going to stand behind their product and replace it for you if something happens (or should I say someone clumsy).

Sure, you can get one on Amazon, but you’ll likely be buying a replacement one in about 3 months.

I’ve had my diffuser for 2 years now with no issues. Plus, I feel even better that if something does happen to it then I can get a replacement at no cost.
